Captain Richard Spear Drive- It's official!

Head down and check it out! it's on Tillson Ave, the street to the new schooner facility and the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The Rockland City Council, city officials, and friends and family of Capt. Richard Spear were on hand June 24 for the formal naming of Captain Spear Drive. The road is located on the north side of Tillson Avenue leading to the new schooner marina in Lermond Cove.

Mayor Deborah McNeil said a lot of people worked hard to get the project completed but no one worked as hard as Spear. McNeil worked with Spear for four-and-a-half years while she was Sen. Olympia Snowe's field representative on getting part of a federal channel discontinued so that the schooners could moor in the cove.

Spear has served on Rockland's Port District since 1953, a total of 57 years.

Spear also served as manager of the Maine State Ferry Service for decades.
